NATIONAL RURAL DEVELOPMENT GAMES
National Department of Sport and Recreation in partnership with Rural Sport Development Programme are hosting national rural development games that started on the 10th ending on the 14th of July 2017 at Limpopo, Polokwane. The purpose of these games is to develop sport in rural communities under traditional leadership and farming community. North West Department of Education and Sport Development sent its best team to defend Bokone Bophirima together with the department general management team, officials and house of the traditional leaders.
On the 08th of July 2017 at Orion Hotel- Rustenburg, a send-off ceremony was held where Acting DDG- Ms D. Mohube, Director of Sports- Mr T.Seboko, Deputy Director- Mr G. Marindi, Chef De Mission- Mr N. Batsietseng and Bojanala District Director- Ms P. Mokhutle were present to give their messages of support and motivation to the team. The team was also provided with their provincial colours in which they all looked bright and beautiful at the official opening ceremony held at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, Polokwane on Monday.
The games played are football under 13 boys and under 15 girls, rugby under 15 boys and girls, netball under 15 and athletics under 15 & 18 boys and girls. The North West team is doing well so far especially in netball and girls’ soccer as the games are still in progress. All the best to the teams that will be proceeding to the finals on Friday the 14th.
