Nelson Mandela Day celebration and RHR Charter launch
Office of the Premier in collaboration with Provincial Departments hosted Mandela day celebration together with the launching of Reconciliation, Healing and Renewal (RHR) Charter on the 18 to 19 July at Potchefstroom. The purpose of the RHR Charter is to give the province’s citizenry a platform to heal the divisions of the past and create a society based on democratic values, social justice and fundamental human rights.
Different departments were delegated to do their 67 minutes at different institutions. Department of Education and Sport Development went to Boiterelo Primary School and Mohadin clinic in Ikageng location. The launch of RHR Charter which the provincial government saw it fit to launch on Nelson Mandela Day as Madiba symbolises peace, reconciliation and forgiveness, was held at Banquet Hall of Potchefstroom at 10:00. “Education to the society should be used as a weapon during the Reconciliation, Healing and Renewal,” said Premier SOR Mahumapelo at the launch.
Education and Sport Development was amongst the different departments which paraded at Ikageng stadium in progress of remembering 67 minutes of Mandela Day and with an objective of creating a united, non racial and democratic citizenry in the province.
The second day was the Premier’s inaugural Saamwerk Saamtrek dialogue session with MEC’s, Head of Departments, Municipalities, Professors of University of Potchefstroom and different stakeholders to outline the implementation of the National Development Plan (NDP) through Rebranding, Repositioning and Renewal (RRR) approach.
