NW EDUCATION AND SPORT DEVELOPMENT ANNOUNCES COMMENCEMENT OF LEARNER REGISTRATION CAMPAIGN
The Education and Sport Development Department in the North West province under political leadership of MEC Sello Lehari has begun its annual learner registration campaign to encourage parents and/or legal guardians to take this opportunity to enrol learners for the 2019 academic year.
The campaign is aimed at hightening the “Teacher, Textbook, Time” phenomenon by government and to curb inconveniences associated with late registration such as overcrowding and shortage of textbooks. The campaign is running from April to 30 September 2018.
Children may be registered at any public school convenient to their homes if vacant places exist at the school. Children residing near the school should be given first preference.
Learner Registration covers learners registering for the first time, learners changing schools and those starting their secondary schooling. All schools should have their admission policies that are in line with the departmental policies in place and correctly implemented to ensure that they serve children’s educational requirements without any unfair discrimination.
MEC Lehari urged parents to heed the clarion call made by the department.
“Parents and guardians should register learners on time in order to assist the department to procure the Learner Support and Teaching Material (LTSM) according to the numbers enrolled at the school. The campaign will assist to reduce long queues that are normally experienced at the beginning of the year and it will allow teaching and learning to take place immediately on the first day when schools reopen”, said MEC Lehari.
Lehari further highlighted the important documents which parents should bring along when registering learners:
Certified birth certificate
Last school academic report card
Transfer letter or card from previous school
Learner’s study permit or work permit of parents for non – citizens
Proof of residence
