MEC LEHARI CONVEYS HIS CONDOLENCES TO THE FAMILIES OF THE TWO DECEASED LEARNERS FOUND HANGED AT A SCHOOL HOSTEL
The North West Education and Sport Development MEC, Sello Lehari is saddened and devastated after hearing about the death of the two 17 year old girl learners who were found hanged in the morning at Stella Combined School hostels in Stella town near Vryburg on Saturday, 26 April 2018.
The two girl learners were both doing Grade 11 and were found in the morning by the matron after they did not wake up from the hostel bell. The matron first found one girl hanging from the stairs and the other one was found hanging in the bathroom.
The two girls were going to join their teammates on the following day who were going to play netball in Koster. Normally the learners are accommodated at school from Monday until Friday. Other girls on Friday had already gone home, and the deceased learners requested to be accommodated at school a night before since they stayed far from the school. Unfortunately they could not respond in the morning when they were awaken in the morning, the police and the families of the deceased were immediately notified.
The North West Education and Sport Development MEC, Sello Lehari conveyed his sincere condolences to the families of the two deceased learners who were both in Grade 11 at Stella Combined School.
“On behalf of the department I wish to convey my sincere condolences to the families and learners of Stella Combined School. The passing on of these two learners is a very tragic incident in our department and we believe that the police will get to the bottom of the matter. We wish the families to find strength from the Lord in order to be able to deal with this tragedy”, said MEC Lehari.
The date for the memorial service will be communicated in due cause and the department has arranged counselling for both learners and teachers.
